Slash says Guns N’ Roses are “trying” to make a new album

Slash has said that Guns N’ Roses are currently “trying” to make a new album, and that he is “working with them in that capacity”.

The hard rock legends have not released a full-length record since 2008’s much-delayed ‘Chinese Democracy’, on which Slash did not appear. Since he rejoined in 2016, they have released a handful of new tracks, including ‘Absurd’, ‘Hard Skool’, ‘Precious’ and ‘The General’, but there has been no confirmation of a further album.

But now Slash has now told the Daily Star (via Music News) that plans are afoot to change that.

“Guns N’ Roses are trying to make their own record,” he said, when asked why he didn’t invite Axl Rose onto his own solo album. “And I’m working with them in that capacity, but this [solo album] didn’t involve anyone else.”

“It was my own side thing, so I wasn’t dragging my own guys in.”

This week (May 17), Slash released his blues album ‘Orgy Of The Damned’ via Gibson Records. Its lead single was a cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s ‘Killing Floor’, which featured AC/DC’s Brian Johnson and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler on harmonica.

The album also features guests including Iggy Pop, Chris StapletonDemi Lovato, Dorothy, Paul Rodgers, Chris Robinson, Tash Neal, Beth Hart, Gary Clark Jr. and Billy Gibbons. Other blues classics included in the tracklisting are Robert Johnson’s ‘Crossroad Blues’, Albert King’s ‘Born Under a Bad Sign’ and Willie Dixon’s ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’.

Slash recently wrapped up a world tour with Myles Kennedy & The Co-Conspirators. On the final night of that tour on April 29 in Paris, they were joined by Wolfgang Van Halen for an explosive cover of AC/DC’s ‘Highway To Hell’. Van Halen’s band Mammoth WVH had been serving as opener on the run of dates.

The guitarist also joined Ryan Gosling on stage at the Oscars in March for a show-stealing performance of ‘I’m Just Ken’ from Barbie, which again saw him joined by Wolfgang Van Halen to tear through a howling guitar solo.
