Taylor Swift retitles ‘Tortured Poets’ song to seemingly take aim at Kanye West

Taylor Swift has retitled a song from her most recent album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘ to seemingly take aim at Kanye West.

The original version of the song, ‘thanK you aiMee’ appeared on Swift’s 11th studio LP back in April. ‘thanK you aIMee’ left fans believing that the song was aimed at the reality TV star who has had a history with the pop singer.

The letters capitalised in the title spell out ‘Kim’, connecting the song to the Kardashian. ‘thanK you aIMee’ also sees Swift discussing a story of a feud between the singer and someone named Aimee from her hometown who was a bully and ended up being celebrated.

Now, in the new live version of the song, Swift has changed the name to ‘thank You aimEe,’ capitalising ‘YE’ in a seeming nod to her feud with West. While the song keeps its original song on streaming, on her webstore the song with the new name can be found.

The song was performed at her June 22 ‘Eras Tour’ in London and was mashed up with ‘Mean’ from ‘Speak Now’.

While performing the track in London in June, Swift also explained its significance: “It really makes me think about how every time someone talks shit, it just makes me work even harder, and it makes me even tougher…So, it also makes me incredibly thankful for those people.”

Kardashian and Swift feuded in 2016 after the release of the reality TV star’s ex Husband – Kanye West‘s track ‘Famous’. In the song, West claimed that he made Swift famous following the infamous 2009 MTV VMAs when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech.

Kardashian claimed that Swift had approved the lyrics on the song and even released audio of a phone call where she gave it the okay.

However, Swift claimed in 2020 that she was “framed” by West after the phone call she had with the rapper to discuss his 2016 track ‘Famous’ leaked online.

The highly-publicised feud would go on to inspire the title and themes of her 2017 sixth album. “My career was taken away from me,” she recalled during the conversation about the incident with TIME last year, explaining that it felt like “a career death”.

“You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before.”

Swift continued: “I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”

During an interview with Rolling Stone in 2019, Swift said she was “done” with the rapper after initially thinking they had overcome their rift: “I started to feel like we reconnected, which felt great for me because all I ever wanted my whole career after that thing happened in 2009 was for him to respect me.”

Meanwhile, last night (August 15) in London, Swift brought out Ed Sheeran as a special guest during the first of her five-night ‘Eras’ tour run at Wembley Stadium.

During the traditional ‘surprise song’ segment of the show, the pop star introduced Sheeran as “one of my best friends in the world” and came out to perform ‘Everything Has Changed’, his duet with Swift from 2012’s ‘Red‘. They then segued into ‘End Game’ from 2017’s ‘Reputation‘, followed by Sheeran’s own song ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
