Watch Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek sing ‘Welcome To My Island’ and do the Macarena at Roskilde

Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek

Charli XCX was joined by Caroline Polachek at Roskilde Festival this weekend for a performance of ‘Welcome To My Island’ – and they threw in the macarena for good measure.

Charli was playing the Arena Stage at the Danish festival on Friday (July 5) when she invited the former Chairlift singer on stage for a rare public outing of her mix of Polachek’s 2023 track.

As well as a rendition of their joint song, they sprinkled in a dose of evergreen dance craze the Macarena too – check out the footage below.

XCX and her partner George Daniel of The 1975 remixed the song last year, ahead of its inclusion on Polachek’s second solo album ‘Desire, I Want To Turn Into You’. Charli then appeared on stage with Polachek on stage in Los Angeles a few months later to give the mix its live premiere.

Charli also told NME at the time that she had been “honoured” to get to rework the track. “It was so fun,” she said. “I made it with my boyfriend [George Daniel], and we love Caroline. I’m such a huge fan of Caroline.”

In other Charli news, she recently responded to Jarvis Cocker playing the Lorde-featuring remix of her track ‘Girl, So Confusing’ during his DJ set at the Stonebridge Bar at Glastonbury, writing simply: “Omg I’m dead”.

Elsewhere at Glastonbury, Charli took to the Levels stage for ‘Charli XCX Presents Partygirl’, where she brought out special guests Romy and Robyn for a performance of ‘With Every Heartbeat’ and a remix of ‘Dancing On My Own’.

Fans took to social media to share frustration that her set wasn’t available to watch, with one fan saying: “how in the name of brat summer was charli xcx on a non televised stage at Glastonbury 😭😭😭

Others were quick to point at the capacity of the venue, which, although in keeping with Charli’s DJ roots, is capped at only 7,000 – joking: “It’s actually BRAT to not get into the Charli XCX DJ set at Glasto.”

Charli also joined Troye Sivan to perform their 2018 hit collaboration ‘1999’ at Wembley Stadium last month, at a show that she had previously been caught enjoying in the crowd, alongside Lorde.

In a four-star review of ‘Brat’NME wrote: “It all paints a picture of who XCX is in 2024.

“Growing pains, grief and aching doubts come alongside self-confidence, celebration and the knowledge of the place XCX holds in the musical landscape – indeed, she kicks off ‘360’ with the knowing: “I went my own way and I made it / I’m your favourite reference baby”. With ‘Brat’, XCX demonstrates that going her own way will always sound pretty good.”
