When they kicked off their residency at The O2 the night before (July 4), they invited a fan on stage to play drums on ‘For Reasons Unknown’ as they celebrated Independence Day.
Writing about that show, NME noted that Brandon Flowers touched on the band’s success while talking to the crowd.
“You’ve got to give the world irrefutable proof that you are who you say you are,” he said. “We’re The Killers – and we’re a great rock ‘n’ roll band. Here, let me show you.”
The Killers’ setlist at The O2 was:
‘Read My Mind’
‘Somebody Told Me’
‘Spaceman’
‘Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine’
‘Smile Like You Mean It’
‘Shot At The Night’
‘Running Towards A Place’
‘On Top’
‘The Man’
‘A Dustland Fairytale’
‘Be Still’
‘Runaways’
‘All These Things That I’ve Done’
‘When You Were Young’
‘Caution’
‘Dying Breed’
Encore:
‘Your Side Of Town’
‘boy’
‘A Little Respect’
‘Human’
‘Mr Brightside’
The Killers are being supported by Travis, with frontman Fran Healy telling NME: “‘I did say to Brandon, ‘I hope you know we’ll go on every single night and try and blow you off the stage’ and he was laughing. He was like, ‘Bring it on’, so it should be brilliant. They’re great guys.”
Both bands took over the OVO Hydrow in Glasgow last week, and teamed up to cover Aztec Camera’s ‘Somewhere In My Heart’.
Speaking to NME about the future of The Killers last year, frontman Flowers said their continued success was “hard to fathom”.
He continued: “I’ve been caught up in this whirlwind for 20 years; in this cycle of touring, writing, touring and writing. The most time we had to reflect was during COVID, and it was quite an awakening process to get time to look through all that we’d done. I’m really proud of the band and the work.”
The Killers’ ‘Rebel Diamonds’ tour continues at The O2 in London on Sunday (July 7). Visit here for tickets, dates and more information.
